About Bad Kissingen

A UNESCO thermal spa town in Franconia

Bad Kissingen is renowned for its thermal baths and spa facilities. It is a historic health resort in Lower Franconia, in the northern part of Bavaria, set on the Franconian Saale in the south of the Rhön Mountains. In 2021 it was inscribed as one of the “Great Spa Towns of Europe” on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

With around 23,000 inhabitants, the town flourished in the 19th century as a fashionable resort for European royalty and statesmen — Otto von Bismarck famously took the cure here. Its Regentenbau, Kurhaus, Wandelhalle and rose gardens remain among the finest spa architecture in Germany.
